Statement of the Executive Board of Assemblies of God’s in Italy (with English translation)
Rifuggendo da ogni intento polemico e da ogni possibile deriva settaria, mosse unicamente dal desiderio di rimanere fedeli a “Tutto l’Evangelo” che intendono continuare a vivere nella sua realtà e a predicare nella sua piena integrità, le Chiese Cristiane Evangeliche Assemblee di Dio in Italia con il presente comunicato ufficiale riaffermano la propria identità pentecostale, che affonda le radici nel pentecostalismo classico, storicamente e biblicamente inteso.
Sottolineano in modo chiaro ed esplicito la propria netta distinzione rispetto al neopentecostalismo e al movimento carismatico
Si dissociano da metodologie, prassi ed espressioni spirituali che non trovano riscontro nel chiaro insegnamento delle Sacre Scritture e che risultano sempre più diffuse in alcuni ambienti neo-pentecostali e carismatici.
Rilevano inoltre come tali novità, differenti per terminologia, impostazione dottrinale ed esperienza religiosa, finiscano, in ultima analisi, per porre l’accento su manifestazioni ed esperienze che fanno leva sulla vulnerabilità spirituale delle persone, piuttosto che sulla potenza salvifica dell’Evangelo e sull’opera della grazia di Dio in Cristo Gesù. A titolo esemplificativo e non definitivo, esse includono: la cosiddetta teologia del regno, il power evangelism, il faith movement, lo spiritual warfare, il vangelo della prosperità, la caduta nello spirito, la risata nello spirito, nonché presunti fenomeni prodigiosi di natura materiale o finanziaria, quali l’olio che fluisce dalle palme delle mani o la polvere d’oro che cade durante l’adorazione, la comparsa di denti d’oro o il miracoloso accredito di somme di denaro sul proprio conto corrente, e forme di apertura ecumenica non fondate su una comune e chiara confessione di fede evangelica.
Ribadiscono con fermezza di non aver bisogno di “un Gesù diverso”, di “uno Spirito diverso” né di “un Vangelo diverso” (cfr. II Corinzi 11:4), se non di quelli presentati e attestati dalle Sacre Scritture, i quali rimangono l’unica e sufficiente regola di fede e di condotta per la vita della Chiesa.
Precisano altresì che l’eventuale partecipazione di singoli credenti che si professano membri di Chiese associate alle Assemblee di Dio in Italia a eventi o iniziative nelle quali vengano incoraggiate o praticate manifestazioni di tale genere ha carattere esclusivamente personale e privato e non è in alcun modo riferibile, imputabile o riconducibile al Consiglio Generale delle Chiese, organo esecutivo della medesima associazione.
Tale precisazione è resa necessaria unicamente per ragioni di chiarezza e correttezza e non intende in alcun modo esprimere giudizi, condanne o sentenze nei confronti di persone o gruppi. L’unico intento di questo comunicato è quello di testimoniare, con piena assunzione di responsabilità, la volontà di rimanere fedeli al Signore Gesù Cristo e al messaggio di “Tutto l’Evangelo” per l’edificazione dei credenti e la gloria di Dio.

Assemblies of God in Italy: Statement of the Executive Board
Shunning any polemical intent and any possible sectarian drift, and moved solely by the desire to remain faithful to “the Whole Gospel,” which they intend to continue to live out in its reality and to preach in its full integrity, the Evangelical Christian Churches of Assemblies of God in Italy, through this official statement, reaffirm their Pentecostal identity, which is rooted in classical Pentecostalism as historically and biblically understood.
They clearly and explicitly underscore their unambiguous distinction from Neo-Pentecostalism and from the Charismatic Movement, dissociating themselves from methodologies, practices, and spiritual expressions that find no support in the evident teaching of the Holy Scriptures and that are becoming increasingly widespread in certain Neo-Pentecostal and Charismatic circles.
They also note that these innovations, which differ in terminology, doctrinal approach and religious experience, ultimately emphasizing manifestations and experiences that leverage people’s spiritual vulnerability, rather than on the saving power of the Gospel and on the work of God’s grace in Christ Jesus. By way of example, and not exhaustively, these include: the so-called Kingdom Theology, power evangelism, the faith movement, spiritual warfare, the prosperity gospel, falling in the Spirit, laughing in the Spirit, as well as alleged prodigious phenomena of a material or financial nature, such as oil flowing from the palms of the hands or gold dust falling during worship, the appearance of gold teeth, or the miraculous crediting of sums of money to one’s bank account, and forms of ecumenical openness not founded on a shared and clear confession of evangelical faith.
They firmly reiterate that they do not need “a different Jesus,” “a different Spirit,” or “a different Gospel” (cf. 2 Corinthians 11:4), other than those presented and attested by the Holy Scriptures, which remain the sole and sufficient rule of faith and conduct for the life of the Church.
They further clarify that any participation by individual believers, who profess to be members of churches associated with the Assemblies of God in Italy, in events or initiatives wherein such manifestations are encouraged or practiced, is of an exclusively personal and private nature. Such involvement is in no wise attributable or referable to the Executive Board of the aforementioned association.
This clarification is deemed necessary solely for the sake of clarity and fairness and is not intended to pronounce judgments, condemnations, or sentences upon any people or groups. The sole intent of this communication is to bear witness, with a full assumption of responsibility, to the will to remain faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ and to the message of “the Whole Gospel,” for the edification of the believers and the glory of God.
